First Telugu Literary Symposium of America

Vanguri Foundation of America, Inc. is pleased to announce that the First Telugu Literary Symposium of America will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA on May 23-24, 1998. Vanguri Foundation was founded in 1994 as a non-profit organization dedicated to promote Telugu language, literature and cultural arts in North America. Dr. Vanguri Chitten Raju (Houston) is President, Dr. Pemmaraju Venugopala Rao (Atlanta) is the General Editor and Mr. Y.V. Syam Sundar (Atlanta) is Chair Person for the Symposium. The Symposium is hosted by Sahiti Sadassu members of Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA).
The Symposium is the first of its kind to be held in North America. Panel discussions on literary aspects of Telugu, Sweeya Kavitha ganam, short stories, discussions on teaching Telugu in North America, presentations on computer technologies related to development of Telugu language and communications are planned.
Sri Indraganti Srikantha Sarma, Editor of Andhra Prabha, Dr. Akkiraju Ramapathi Rao, Sri Akella Venkata Suryanarayana, Dr. Kovela Sampathkumaracharya and Dr. Tenneti Sudha Devi are participating as guests of honor from India. Dr. Velcheru Narayana Rao, Professor of South Asian Studies, Madison, Wisconsin will deliver the key note address.
The Symposium is attended by several distinguished Telugu writers from all parts of North America including Kalaprapurna Dr. Avasarala Anasuya Devi, Akkaraju Sarma, Jagdish Bisa, Cherukuri Rama Devi , Chavali Rama Somayajulu, D.A.A.S Rao, Gavarasana Satyanarayana, G.V.R.K. Three new books, 'Tiruppavai", "America Telugu Kadhanika - Volume 5" (A collection of Telugu short , "America Telugu Kavitha- Volume 1) published by Vanguri Foundation and several others will be released on the occasion. Tiruppavai , the story of Sri Andal, is a full color book with 32 brilliant pictures drawn by Bapu and is a Telugu translation by the late Sri Lakshmana Yatindrula varu & English version by Pemmaraju Venugopla Rao. The other two books are collections of short stories and poems by Telugu writers based in America. All the articles, stories, poems and discussions presented in the Symposium will be published as
"Proceedings of the Symposium" immediately after the Symposium.
Awards will be presented to the winners of the third annual Ugadi contest in the categories of Telugu short stories, poems and novels written by Telugu writers of North America. Vamsi Arts, Hyderabad will present a gold medal for the first prize winner in the short story contest.
